Dev Log #1: 2025 Solarpunk Jam Finalist, Release & Reception, 100+ Downloads, Summer Game Fest, and More!

Hey everyone! While it’s only been under a month since we’ve released Sky Patch, there’s a whole lot to celebrate- Let’s start with Sky Patch placing as a Finalist for Solarpunk Jam! 🎉🎉🎉

Our team at Null Jam Games was ecstatic to receive this special recognition from Anima Interactive, Day Zero Productions, the jam organizers and all involved for Solarpunk Jam. We send our warmest gratitude for giving Sky Patch this honor. Out of 70+ games submitted, Sky Patch was one of two finalists chosen! Thank you so much!

Because of this great honor, we were formally invited by the jam organizers to partake in this year’s Summer Game Fest under the Green Games Showcase, spearheaded by PlanetPlay. Our team was quick to accept, and we’re thrilled to be supporting the initiatives of the Green Games Showcase and its mission to inspire and cultivate a greener world. #MakeGreenMoves 💚

To support us, tune in on Saturday, June 7th at 1PM PT (8PM UTC) on the official The Game Awards Youtube channel for the Green Games Showcase! We hope to see you there!

We’d like to take the time to highlight some special shout-outs we received from our community in the last month, starting with this lovely shout-out from ENTRY-LVL, a community-driven platform and resource board for junior game developers. Thank you so much for your support in the release of Sky Patch! 💚

We send a heartfelt thank you to Luna (@lunaraliao) for playing Sky Patch and leaving us a very kind review! Luna is a baking content creator (15K+ Followers on TikTok) with a love for fitness, cute things, and cozy games! 💚

In the last 22 days, Sky Patch has achieved over 100 Downloads. We want to extend our greatest thank you to all who have played, left us valuable feedback, and shared our game with their friends and loved ones! Your feedback helped us to make meaningful QoL improvements and bug fixes so that Sky Patch can be pushed to the best it can be.

Here are some of the changes we have pushed since then:

  • Fixed a bug that causes the player to slide instead of resuming walk animation.
    • Special thank you to game-fan-I-am for raising this issue with us and taking the time to reproduce it.
  • Minor adjustment to controls when using bounce mushrooms.

And some future polish we’re planning, based on feedback:

  • General improvements for game design across Levels 1- 3.
  • Addition of new levels (for jam scope, we cut out Levels 4 - 5 but are floating its implementation).
  • Overhaul of player character designs.

Finally, our team would like to end this on our learnings and reflections.

Pauline (Polly) Reinacher, 2D Concept Artist, Texture Artist, Marketing & Promotional Media:

“I learned a lot from Connor about texturing thanks to his in-depth guidance. It was my first time working on trim sheets as well as making tile textures/seamless patterns, which was really handy since I've already put it to use for other games I'm helping to make, so I really owe it to Connor for giving me that opportunity to learn! I also learned that sound designers are very careful in their details and had support from Anton during trailer editing so that the music could be utilized to its fullest potential- I appreciate Anton's attention and care while I was putting the trailer together.”

Connor Baker, Lead Environment Artist, Level Designer:

“I think what I learned was mainly soft skills. What’s important is to communicate and organize my thoughts so they make sense to a wider range of people and skill sets.”

Once more, thank you to everyone who has supported and shown love for Sky Patch. We’ll see you for the next one! 🏝️☁️
